Caring for your Textile Purchase
Textiles made using traditional hooked or prodded rag rugging techniques should not be put into a washing machine. To clean these rugs you can use one of the following methods:
1.Hang it on your washing line and beat it with a carpet beater.
2.Put it upside down in your bath with suitable (gentle) liquid detergent and squash/agitate - never wring out a rag rug. It is then important to dry your rug out as fast as possible - do not leave it in a damp condition as this will damage the hessian backing.
3.Alternatively, you can do what our ancestors did - put it upside down in the snow til clean! Drying it out again asap of course..............That's assuming you have snow........
Standing Wool (Quillie) Rag rugs
These rugs must only be spot cleaned or gently vacuumed with an appropriate attachment.
Standing Wool (Quillie) Trivets and Coasters
These may be gently handwashed at a cool temperature.
Braided Rag Rugs
These rugs can be handwashed or brushed - although it is unlikely that you will need to do this very often at all.
Toothbrush Rugs
These can be washed as normal on a standard 40 degree washing cycle
